If I install a renewable energy system, can I sell energy back to the utility company?
That might be an option.
It is best to coordinate with your utility early in the installation process to determine their regulations and policies regarding connecting to the utility grid and renewable energy buy-back rates. All investor owned and municipal utilities in Wisconsin are required to allow net metering to customers who install wind electric or solar electric systems up to 20 kW in capacity. This means that that any excess generated electricity will be credited to your account at the same retail rate you typically pay for electricity. Please contact your utility directly for current information and application materials.
